Our Forum is an independent voluntary organisation based in the London Borough of Enfield. Established in 1999, we now have more than 5,000 members aged 50 and over but work across the generations to improve the lives of all residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have two main aims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We hold meetings at various venues around the borough, including the last Tuesday of every month at the Civic Centre. This gives everyone the chance to hear \u2013 and question \u2013 speakers from the council, health bodies, government departments, police etc on how their policies and initiatives will affect us all. We also have talks from groups and individuals covering anything from caring for relatives or dealing with bereavement to building a family tree or avoiding scams. We\nrun an annual Winter Fair Day, Falls Prevention Day and\nFun(d)-raising Day which all offer information, entertainment and the\nchance to participate in a range of activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The newsletters<\/a> list upcoming Forum events and meetings, highlight issues of general interest and explain how proposed council and government policies will affect Over 50s and why we are lobbying the relevant bodies. Members of the Forum\u2019s Executive Committee and others continue to fight for the right to be heard. And it works. Enfield councillors and officers recognise the Forum\u2019s influence and we contribute towards formulating council policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Check here<\/a> for current campaigns and issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The volunteers in our Social Events Team organise trips to a wide range of places of interest, theatres, restaurants etc. Locations are local, London, UK and even worldwide. Recent places include museums, art galleries, a prison restaurant, Roman baths, the seaside, a music hall, a brewery, a farm and a golf club. Activities have included white water rafting, dancing, sailing, visiting otherwise inaccessible buildings as well as the usual sightseeing and eating\/drinking. Any member who has ideas for places to visit is encouraged to contact the Social Events Team and get assistance so he\/she can organise the event themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You must be a member of the Forum to participate in these activities. Pay as you go customers get most activities for half price and annual membership is just \u00a3390 compared with \u00a3560. Weekly Over50s days at Southgate, Southbury, Edmonton and Albany include swimming, badminton, pilates, yoga, gym, walking football\/netball and even a monthly tea dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Regular meetings with interesting speakers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

8,000 copies of the printed newsletter are distributed every two months, to libraries, doctors surgeries and council premises as well as to members.
