Update from Fusion Leisure Centres — 27 November 2020

Fusion Leisure Centres in Enfield are open again from Wednesday 2 December with the range of activities varying from centre to centre. Please contact your local centre or check online for hours of opening https://www.fusion-lifestyle.com/

Fusion answers some questions

Are members of the Over 50s Forum still entitled to concessions?

Yes, we are offering concessions to members of the Over 50s Forum as well as to other groups including those with disabilities, those in receipt of benefits and the under 16s, who are pay-as-you-go.

This means they can buy the concession card (sometimes called the energy card) for £7.50 a year instead of the standard price of £21.50. With this card they will get a discount of 30%, so paying £5.60 for a swim/gym session/ class instead of £8.

How do Over 50s members ensure they get the discount now that all bookings are online?

We need people to go to www.fusion-leisure.com and select a preferred centre and register with their name and address etc. Then they should go into that centre, show their Over 50s Forum membership card and renew or buy their annual concession card. This information will be added to their online registration so that they will then pay only £5.60 for activities they book.

What about Forum members who had /have an annual pass?

All Fusion annual memberships were frozen at the end of March and re-activated in mid-August when we re-opened. We have extended members end dates on their memberships to backdate for the loss of time during the lockdown and we would advise all annual members on their visit to ask our reception team for confirmation of their end date so their annual membership and any benefits that might be associated with it do not expire.

What about Forum members who paid monthly direct debit?

All people who were paying monthly direct debits were sent an email at the start of the lock-down offering them three options:
1) to cancel their direct debit immediately
2) to pay a reduced rate of £10 a month in order to access the online classes and to ensure that when the centres opened again they would retain their existing terms and conditions
3) to opt for a free freeze (£0 a month) which protected their membership and benefits but would be subject to a price increase.

For Over 50s who paid either the £10 or £0 a month during lockdown, their existing direct debit fee (£29/£X* a month), was re-activated on 1 September. For those who chose to cancel their direct debit, they will have to choose one of the new membership options on offer. In addition to this, those that paid the £10 freeze fee will not incur any price increases until 2022. Those who opted for the free freeze will not see an increase in price until 2021.
(* some people were paying a different amount for off-peak access or other reduced access).

The Forum has received calls from people who did not receive the email at the start of lockdown because they do not have an email address. You need to call or go into your local centre and ask to talk to the manager. Your contract is with Fusion and so you need to resolve this with Fusion.

What are the new Direct Debit monthly options?

  1. Daytime, Individual DD, Centre Only. This means access to only one centre Mon-Fri 10am – 4pm. Gym, pool, 2 classes a week. £35 per month individual or £66.50 per couple.
  2. Anytime Individual DD All Enfield Centres, £45 per month or £85.50 per couple.
  3. Gym and Swim DD Centre Only, £34 per month or £64.60 per couple.

What happens when Forum members’ annual pass runs out?

Forum members with an annual pass which runs out before April 2021 will be able to renew for a year for the same price as they pay now (as agreed between Fusion and the Forum last year) with the same terms and conditions though limited in same way as other members (see earlier question). For others buying an annual pass, Fusion is currently offering a 12 months for the price of 11 deal. The Number 1 option above will cost £385. The number 2 option, £495. There are no reductions for Forum members at this current moment in time.

When are the Over 50s Days returning?

We would all like to see this very successful scheme up and running again as soon as possible. Unfortunately, by its very nature, an Over 50s Day involves people gathering and socialising as well as exercising, so it does not meet Government guidelines. However we are looking at launching a ‘remodelled’ Over 50s Day so do check back with your centre.

What provision are you making for people who are unable to access online booking facilities?

The Forum is still awaiting an answer from Fusion. Call in to your local Fusion Leisure centre to find out more. Or ask a friend / neighbour to check our website for you.

If you have more questions about Fusion, especially about day to day operations and Covid-19 measures, please go to your local centre or visit the website and see Frequently Asked Questions.

Check the Fusion website for the most up to date information or visit your local centre. NOTE: All activities will need to be booked in advance and online.

Enfield Council press release about reopening of Fusion Leisure Centres, 11 August 2020. https://new.enfield.gov.uk/news-and-events/enfield-council-holds-fusion-lifestyle-to-account/

Statement from Fusion, 24 July 2020
Following the government announcement that leisure centres may reopen, we have been analysing the safety and financial challenges ahead. The Covid crisis has had a huge financial impact on the sector and UKactive have confirmed that projected footfall and income will be significantly down over the next year, whilst operating within the new guidelines.

We are working with Enfield Council to look at the options for a phased return of leisure centre provision, but we do not expect all activities at all facilities to resume immediately. At this stage we will not be opening on the 25th July. However, please be assured, we are working closely with Enfield Council to assess the situation and will bring you news as soon as possible. We know your leisure facilities are really important for your health and well-being and we want them open again as soon as they are safe and viable, so we hope that you will bear with us during this time.

As a registered charity, Fusion is supporting the #SaveLeisure campaign launched by Community Leisure UK urging the UK Government to commit circa £800m relief funding to enable the full reopening and recovery of the public leisure sector. Without this dedicated relief fund a third of all public leisure facilities in the UK may not reopen and half will face permanent closure by the end of the year. To find out more about this campaign and ways you can support, click here.

Please stay tuned for more information, we will be in touch as soon we have an update for you.

Cheaper fitness for members

Forum members enjoy reduced rates at the council leisure centres run by Fusion Lifestyle

We are continually getting messages about keeping our minds and bodies active in order to stay healthy and happy as we grow older. The Forum heartily endorses these sentiments so we try and offer our members as many incentives as possible to get out and about in the borough – and further afield.

One major advantage of joining the Forum (for just £11 a year) is that, if you are an Enfield resident, your membership entitles you to reduced prices at the council’s leisure centres which are run by Fusion.

Take your Forum membership card along to one of the Fusion centres and buy an annual Energy concession card for just £7.50 instead of £21.50. Then you are eligible for discounts which in most cases means half price for swims/sauna, using the gym and talking part in classes and other activities.

Annual membership is £390 instead of £506 and there are even cheaper annual/monthly offers if you are able to visit the centres during off-peak hours.

Fusion runs Over 50s Days in all the centres which cost just £4.50 (instead of £9) for Energy concession card holders and enable attendees to take part in all the activities including swim, gym, walking football / netball, pilates, yoga, badminton, aquafit and even dancing on some days. See below for a list of centres and their timetables

You can just turn up on the day – no contract, no signing up. It is a great way to meet new people as well as taking the chance to try out new activities – or get back to old ones you used to enjoy.
